A Leap of Faith in Her Career
Jenny says her role at WRJZ began unexpectedly. After sensing a calling to leave the company where she had earned respect as a top regional sales representative, she found herself visiting the radio station in 2006.
She had come to the studio to talk about The Nativity Pageant of Knoxville, a nonprofit organization Jenny is passionate about. After the interview, she was asked if she had ever considered a career in radio.
“I loved my job and clients,” Jenny recalls, “But I felt God wanted me to leave that job and follow what He had for me.” That decision eventually led her to cohost “The Bob Bell Show” on Mondays and launch her “Crossroads” series.
The heart of Jenny’s work on “Crossroads” lies in sharing the impactful, life-changing decisions that her guests have made. She believes these moments at life’s crossroads are pivotal.
“Life-changing decisions come at the crossroads of every life,” she explains. “The most important is when you decide to follow Christ.”
A Life of Service and Creativity
Beyond her work on WRJZ, Jenny serves on The Nativity Pageant of Knoxville Advisory Board and the Board of Directors for The Wordplayers, a local Christian theatre company. She has been teaching fourth and fifth graders in Sunday School for over 20 years, pouring her faith into the next generation.
Jenny is also deeply creative. She’s an artist, she’s acted in commercials, she’s been a runway model, and has served as keynote speaker or emcee for many local events.
Whether on mission trips to share the gospel or on ocean and river cruises just for fun, Jenny and her husband love to travel. Closer to home, they cheer for the UT Vols and enjoy local theatre and museums.
On the home front, Jenny is a gardener and is skilled in the kitchen. Cooking helps her feel close to her mother, stirring up childhood memories.
“I love to find creative recipes and try them,” Jenny says. “I have a love for cooking because my mother was a wonderful cook and entertainer.”
Reading is another one of her passions. “I read a lot!!” Jenny says. “I get so many books from publicists, publishers, PR companies, and individual authors. I love to read the book – or most of it – before I interview someone!’
Faith That Deepened Through Struggles
Jenny accepted Christ at age 12, but it wasn’t until she became an adult that she fully surrendered her life to Him.
“I didn’t have the deep relationship with Jesus until I went through many struggles,” she reflects.
That faith now guides everything she does, from her sales work to her move into radio to ministries like Celebrate Recovery, where Jenny has ministered to many women who have been affected in some way by addiction. This powerful ministry effort has even extended to serve women in area detention centers.
For Jenny, every moment—whether on air or in life—is an opportunity to follow God’s plan.
“When you are at a crossroad, ask the Lord to give you direction,” she says.
And we might add that, when you’re at that crossroad, you can count on Jenny Bushkell to be a voice of encouragement, faith, and inspiration. Tune in to hear Jenny on Thursdays & Fridays at 2:30 p.m. or check out her podcast for extra inspiration any day of the week.
