“Luckey” and Blessed

It’s a weekday morning, the coffee’s on, Christian radio is on the air, and Catelyn Luckey is launching into a new day at the center of it all. Joy 620’s superstar administrative assistant starts her days stationed at the hub of activity, front and center.

“I answer the phone and the door, I greet guests and show hosts, I support the Bob Bell Show by communicating with and scheduling guests,” Catelyn says of her post at the front desk. On the side, she handles various projects for management, assists the Christian Resource Center that’s housed under the same roof as the radio station, and oversees our email lists for communications like the Joy 620 Insider newsletter.

When Catelyn isn’t at the Joy 620 office, she’s often tending to her many plants at home, making jewelry, drawing, playing computer games, cooking or listening to music. She also enjoys spending time with her younger brother who is enrolled at the University of Tennessee.

Making her Way to Tennessee

Catelyn is a military kid who spent much of her growing up years on the move. “I most often say that I’m from America,” she jokes, “but I was born in Savannah, GA and lived there for 7 or 8 months before I moved for the first time.”

She has made herself at home in lots of different places but found her way to Knoxville because of a family connection. With college graduation behind her and a business degree to her credit, Catelyn was ready for a place to get started on the next chapter of her life.

It’s been said that “There’s no place like home – except Grandma’s house.” That saying proved to be true for Catelyn.

“My mother’s family is from the Karns area and has been there for generations,” Catelyn explains. “I came to spend some time reconnecting with them and to look for a place to start my career in the Knoxville area.”

The timing was perfect. Connections at her grandparents’ church led her to an unexpected opportunity. Joy 620 was looking for a new administrative assistant and Catelyn was the perfect fit for the job.

From Church Kid to Child of God

Catelyn remembers regularly attending church with her family as a small child, but one summer in Vacation Bible School she made a decision to take the first step in her very own faith journey. She went forward to pray and accept Jesus as her Savior.

At the age of 18, Catelyn began to feel a stirring in her heart – a pull to go deeper in her faith and strengthen her commitment to Christ. While navigating the storms in her life, she found that holding onto the Rock of her salvation kept her from sinking.

“I have been really leaning into and growing in him over the last three years,” Catelyn says. “It’s been an absolute mess. God doesn’t cause pain, but he sure will use it. Still growing. Still learning. Still clinging to the hem of Jesus’ garment.”

The song, “Counting My Blessings” by Seph Schlueter has become a personal anthem for Catelyn.

I was praying for a miracle

Scared to have a little hope

And now looking back today

Seeing all the things You’ve done

I can’t even add them up…

God, I’m still counting my blessings

All that You’ve done in my life

The more that I look in the details

The more of Your goodness I find

Father on this side of Heaven

I know that I’ll run out of time

But I will keep counting my blessings

Knowing I can’t count that high.

Catelyn doesn’t wait till Thanksgiving to count her blessings. She counts them all year long.

“I am thankful for patient and loving friends and family, wonderful, godly, mentors, good food,” she says, “oh yeah, and plants!”

She shares her favorite Bible verse from 2 Corinthians: “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” – 2 Corinthians 12:9

Catelyn is growing stronger in her faith every day, and as a result she’s bringing joy to everyone she meets at Joy 620. We are truly blessed to have Catelyn Luckey on our team.
