Easter is over. Now what?

Easter is over. God’s Word remains.

Easter Sunday always brings a special kind of excitement. Churches are full, music is powerful, and the gospel is proclaimed with boldness and clarity. Many congregations pull out all the stops—and rightly so! We celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the cornerstone of our faith.

But what happens the Sunday after?

It’s easy to slip back into the normal rhythm of ministry and assume the moment has passed. But if a guest returned the week after Easter, would they experience the same warmth, purpose, and energy? Would they still hear a clear message about Jesus? That’s where a solid, intentional follow-up plan matters.

Staying in Scripture

Smart church leadership thinks beyond Easter Sunday. One strategic next step is to keep the focus on the mission Jesus gave us: to make disciples (Matthew 28:18–20). After His resurrection and before His ascension, Jesus gave His followers marching orders—and He also promised to send the Helper, the Holy Spirit (John 14:16-17), to empower us to carry them out.

The season between Easter and summer is a good time to teach on the presence and power of the Holy Spirit in the life of every believer. This isn’t about emotionalism or confusion. This is about God’s gift of guidance, conviction, courage, and comfort, made available to every follower of Christ.

Preparing for Growth

This is also a great time to encourage members to explore how God has uniquely gifted them to serve the body. Scripture tells us that every believer is given a spiritual gift (1 Corinthians 12:4–7), not for show, but for the building up of the church. Imagine the impact if every member knew their gift and used it!

Summer is a natural time to launch classes or small groups that help people discover how they can serve. When churches equip people to use their gifts—whether it’s teaching, encouragement, administration, or hospitality—the church becomes stronger, more united, and more effective in reaching the lost.

Every season presents a new opportunity to refocus on why the church exists: to continue the work Jesus began—sharing the gospel, making disciples, and living out the truth of God’s Word in a world that desperately needs it.

Let’s not waste the momentum of Easter. Let’s build on it—with purpose, with clarity, and with the Spirit’s help.
