Hi, I’m Bob Bell, and I have a list.
Thankfully, it’s a positive list . It contains names of people who have profoundly influenced my life. People like my mom, my wife, close, dear friends, and many men in the Ministry; men like Dr. Ron Stewart, Dr. Matt Prince, Dino Bray, Sam Polson, and Dr. Doug Sager.
Dr. Doug Sager is on my heart today. I never was a member of his church, but he poured so much Godly wisdom into me that I feel as though he was halfway between a father and an advisor. He was affectionately known to many as Brother Doug.
This man was crazy – in a good way.
He was crazy for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He was incredibly passionate about teaching the Word of God to young children (Doug was known for his renowned Vacation Bible Schools). He adamantly gave instruction on being salt and light in this world.
Doug Sager is one preacher who go from fiery to weeping tender tears in three sentences. He taught me personally that passion for the Word of God was to be evident on my face, in my voice, and undeniably in my walk.
He was a man who loved his family and his church. But nothing compared to his love for his Savior.
Several years ago, when he went home to be with the Lord, I can only imagine that Heaven became a few decibels louder. There were surely shouts of praise and long periods of laughter. After all, that’s exactly what Doug was like here on Earth.
As I look back on my life, I hope I can encourage you to look back at yours. God put special people in your path for His purpose. Learn to be thankful for those who have touched your life in that way and find inspiration in their examples.
In other words, learn it, love it, live it.
